PSHE

Through PSHE we aim to enable all pupils to develop an understanding of the ever-changing world in which we live, develop the skills necessary to live confident and healthy lives and take an active role in their community.  We want to prepare them for the future by encouraging the development of characteristics for life such as integrity, a love of learning, resilience, team work and independence. PSHE promotes the social, moral, spiritual, cultural (SMSC) and mental development of pupils and encourages them to be inquisitive and reflective lifelong learners.

We follow the Cambridgeshire Primary Personal Development Programme from the Cambridgeshire PSHE Service.

Please find below the overview for the units taught across years 1-6 and the progression of skills for PSHE.

A sneak peak into some of our wonderful learning:

EYFS

In Early Years, the children have been looking at how they have changed and developed over time.

Year 1/2

Year 1/2 have been looking at emotions and how they can affect others. They have also been looking at strategies for helping them to deal with some of the stronger emotions they may experience.

Year 3/4

Year 3/4 have been looking at risk management with a specific focus on water safety.

Remind yourself and your family how to stay safe around water by watching this video from the RLSS UK

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 have been exploring the topic of mental health and wellbeing. Using a game of snakes and ladders, they identified different self-care strategies and developed an understanding that everyone experiences ups and downs. They also learned that we don’t always see the low points coming, and that it’s important to find personal coping strategies, as what helps one person might not work for another.

Anti-bullying Week

The theme for Anti-Bullying Week this year is ‘Make a Noise about Bullying’ and the children in each key stage completed a range of different activities to show how we can stand up and speak out against bullying within school.

EYFS

In Reception, the children discussed how to use kind words and actions towards their family and friends. They then made a kindness card. They also created some fantastic odd socks for Odd Socks Day.

Key Stage 1

In Key Stage 1, the children discussed what bullying looks like in school and what we can do to prevent it from happening. They created anti-bullying posters to promote kindness and understanding.

Key Stage 2

In Key Stage 2, the children created a whole-class anti-bullying rap and anti-bullying poems. They also created ‘bantometers’.
