At Hardwick and Cambourne Community Primary School we believe that the learning of a foreign language should ignite a life-long passion for learning in our children by providing rich opportunities to develop pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural experiences. We pride ourselves on our inclusive culture in which diversity and sense of belonging are celebrated and where close community links share expertise and model good citizenship. We believe that language learning not only develops competence in another language but also kindles curiosity and develops learning skills. It is about the broader curriculum; about children exploring the relationship between language and identity, about developing an international outlook and an enhanced understanding of the world and their place within it. As the opening statement of the new Programme of Study puts it: ‘’Learning a foreign language is liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures.’’
