Cambourne

Cambourne Classroom Names

Cambourne has adopted new classroom names based on local wildlife and the whole school have been doing art projects to celebrate. Each class studied a famous artist to influence their project. Look below to see their results. 

 

Squirrels

The lucky squirrels have been working with paint just like Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943). A female, British artist and illustrator who is most famous for her delightful children's books featuring animals like Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin and Jemima Puddle-Duck. She used detailed watercolour paintings and precise ink illustrations to create her artistic style. Beatrix Potter had a keen eye for nature and often drew inspiration from the English countryside and its wildlife.

Tadpoles

The children in Tadpoles class have been exploring art by Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849). A Japanese art who was famous for detailed prints that show the beauty of nature. He used a techniques called 'Ukiyo-e' which involves making print from woodblocks. His art is known for its intricate details and vibrant colours. 

Reception

Frogs

The Frogs class are exploring the work of female artist Alma Thomas (1891 - 1978). An  African-American artist who loved using bright colours and fun shapes in her artwork. She made her pictures look like they were made out of tiny tiles like a 'mosaic'. Alma inspires everyone to look at the world in a colourful way. The Frogs class have made a massive mosaic using paper plates.  

Year 1 / 2 

Bumblebees

The Bumblebees class have been looking at the work of female, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907 - 1954). In her life, Frida developed a disability due to being involved in a bad accident when she was young. However, she was still able to create beautiful self-portraits and is an inspiration to many people this day.

Butterflies

The Butterflies class have been looking at the work of Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898 - 1972) who was a Dutch artist. (also known as M. C. Escher) He became famous for his amazing art that plays with your eyes and mind by using a technique called 'tessellation".  Tessellation involves using shapes that fit together like a puzzle without any gaps.

Dragonflies

The Dragonflies class have been looking at the work Jackson Pollock (1912 - 1956). Jackson Pollock was an American painter who is most famous for his wild way of painting which looks like splashes and drips. This technique is called 'drip painting' and involves flicking and pouring paints onto a canvas.

Year 3 / 4 

Falcons

Traveling further afield are the Falcons who looked at the work of Yayoi Kusama (1929 - present). Yayoi Kusama is a female, Japanese artist who is famous for bright colours and polka dots! She is also well known for using 'infinity mirrors' to create rooms that feel like they go on forever. 

Owls

The owls have been flying off to far off lands in search of Tinga Tinga artwork. Edward TingaTinga (1932 - 1972) was born in Tanzania (East Africa) and is most famous for his vibrant paintings of African wildlife and culture. He create a new style of art subsequently named after him (Tinga Tinga Painting) which involves bright colours and bold outlines. This style was also the influence for the CBeebies cartoon Tinga Tales. Have you seen it? 

 

Puffins

The Puffins class got to explore the world of Warhol. Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987) was an American artist who became famous for his bold colours and repeating images. He is well known for using a technique called 'Silkscreen Printing' which let him create lots of beautiful pictures quickly. 

Swans 

The swans class have been exploring the work of Keith Haring (1958 - 1990). Haring was an American artost who became famous for using bold lines and bright colours. Using a technique called 'Street Art', Haring painted his colour figures on walls and buildings including big cities like New York!

Year 5 / 6 

Foxes

The Foxes class has been exploring the work of Romero Britto (1963 - present). An artist born in Brazil who has been making heads turn with his vibrant artwork. Britto is known for using bold colours, geometric shapes and a range of patterns to create his vivid pieces. His work includes subjects including people, animals and everyday objects in a playful and optimistic way. It is his intention to spread happiness through his artwork. 

Moles

The Moles have been getting crafty by looking at the work of Michelle Reader (1975 - present). Michelle Reader is a female, British artist who is known for her sculptures made from recycled materials. She takes everyday items that people throw away and transforms them into amazing pieces of art. Her art is colourful, imaginative and encourages people to think about our planet. 

Otters

The Otters class have been traveling further afield to explore Japanese artist Takashi Marakami (1962 - Present). Most famous for his unique art, Marakami blends traditional Japanese culture with modern pop art. This style is known as 'Superflat' and uses bold colours, cartoon-like characters and has a flat, two-dimensional appearance. He often combines elements of Manga and Anime with traditional Japanese motifs.  

Polecats

The Polecats class have been looking at the powerful works of Kara Walker (1969 - present). A passionate, female, American artist who is famous for creating powerful pieces. Through her artwork, Walker tells important stories about history, identify and spreading awareness of racism. Walker created detailed black cut-out figures called 'Silhouettes' and lays them on white backgrounds to create passionate pieces of artwork.
