Prevent

What is Prevent?

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorists or extremist causes.  The Prevent Strategy covers all types of terrorism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamic groups and other causes.

Prevent is about safeguarding and supporting those vulnerable to radicalisation.

The Prevent Lead for the school is Ms Cate Thompson (Co-Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead)

Hardwick and Cambourne Community Primary School is very pro-active in ensuring that all staff and governors are aware of radicalisation and work incredibly hard to keep our pupils safe from any form of radicalisation as well as keeping them informed and educated.  We also provide a wealth of opportunities to understand at age appropriate levels the signs and vulnerabilities of radicalisation and who to contact if they are worried or need help.  As a school, we follow Cambridgeshire and Peterborough's Safeguarding Children's board advice on the prevention of radicalisation of children in our care.

The school has produced a parental pamphlet to help parents understand the Prevent Duty.  We also have an action plan that we review regularly.
